Block Island on Labor Day Weekend

04 September 2009
Bob, again fabulous weather
We sailed from Cuttyhunk to Block Island today, NE winds just perfect and there were boats everywhere. For the last two months we were often the only boat around, and now anchored here in the Great Salt Pond of Block Island we are but one of more than a thousand. Boast are rafted three and four deep at the docks and the entire Great Salt Lake is full.

When I was a kid my grandparents and then my uncle would bring us to Block on their power boats. In those days there were only a handfull or more in the harbor. If my folks could see this it would blow their minds. Life is good in America and Americans know how to enjoy themselves. I'm proud to be here having seen another part of the Maritimes and I'm pleased to see that despite all the bad press and gloom and doom there are lots of people saying the hell with it we're going to Block Island.

I'll put up some pictures tomorrow, it is amazing.

We'll spend a couple of days here and then push off for the passage to Cape May and Delaware Bay. Both Alice and I will be working the Annapolis boat shows and we are looking forward to the next phases of our journey. This is pretty stupendous stuff and we are so fortunate, life's pretty good aboard Lucky Bird.

Lucky Bird's Photos - Main
This is our second journey south to the Caribbean. This time we've chosen to exit Lake Michigan and proceed south through the in-land waterway system to Mobile. We'll start around Labor Day and take our time exploring the history of middle America.
