Day Two in Barbuda
21 January 2010 | Low Bay, Barbuda
Occasional rain squalls
Today was exploration day and we had made arrangements with Solomon to take us to the Frigate bird colony at 10:00. Rain squalls were all around us and just as we were getting into his boat we got dumped on, but who cares right? A 15 minute high speed ride into the mangroves and all of a sudden there were thoudsands of Frigate birds, they were everwhere and circling high into the sky. Solomon took us front and center into the colony where we could almost touch the nesting birds. Males with inflated chests of bright red skin attempting to lure a female. Females circuling, searching for just the right guy, oh, over there, hey girls, he's mine!!
We stayed for a while and then headed back and once again got dumped on. Now back aboard our home, we're thinking of our next adventure. So a little scotch to loosen up the grey matter.
My sense is we will mosey around to the south side of the island, spend another night and then sail over to Antigua, An-te-ga. There's a super yacht regatta next week which may yield a few great photos and some jawking on our part.
So thanks Barbuda, and thanks Lucky Bird
