Lov'in It In Antigua

Bob, Back to the BEAUUUTIFULL
So we've worked our way back up to Antigua just in time for the Classic Yachts Regatta and next week Antigua Race Week. Alice leaves for Aruba tomorrow at 03:30, yes that's pretty early right? That's 01:30 for those of you back in Chi-town. I'll be boat sitting for the seven days she's in Aruba visiting her sisters who are down from Massachusetts and Vermont.

This week was the Classic Yachts and every morning a whole bunch of us would hike up to the top of the hills overlooking Flamouth Harbor. From there we had an incredible view of the entire race course. 'Quite a sight watching 130 - 140 foot sailboats charging the starting line at over 11 knots. Good fun followed by a few rum drinks and lots of conversation.

The other night we invited two other cruising couples over for game playing. We took out Catch-Phrase and the battery still worked. Diane and Billy introduced us to this fun game. It was a hit; six adults laughing their off; men against the ladies, tied 3 games to three. Good fun, wine rum and friendship in paradise, not bad don'tcha know?

Now about our plans, yes they keep changing almost daily. Alice is off to Aruba for seven days while I wait to hear from an insurance company we've applied to. Our current provider told us if we stayed in Antigua they wouldn't cover us, bummer!! So we are trying to find other protection from the company that many cruisers are using. Let's hope??

If it doesn't work out our choices are sail to Trinidad or the US. A couple of weeks ago we were within shouting distance of Trinidad and know it's almost three hundred miles back down the chain, arg!!. Sailing back to the US isn't a simple task either. We'd most likely try and pick up some additional crew and head for Bermuda and then the east coast rather than fight our way north through the Bahamas. Oh well, we wait, meanwhile Antigua Race week starts Thursday so there will be lots for me to do while Alice visits her family. I have a list of boat projects as well, so I'll be busy. I've also loaded up on pasta and tomato sauces, you know pasta in the morning, pasta at noon, pasta at night, everything is all right!!

I'll be uploading some new pictures shortly.

Alice and I have spent considerable time together on the water; cruising and racing on the waters of New England, the Caribbean and Lake Michigan.

Sailing is our passion and together we've been fortunate to experience the thrills, the camaraderie and the enjoyment boating provides. [...]

We seek the freedom, excitement and challenges of voyaging.

Lucky Bird's Photos - Main
This is our second journey south to the Caribbean. This time we've chosen to exit Lake Michigan and proceed south through the in-land waterway system to Mobile. We'll start around Labor Day and take our time exploring the history of middle America.
