Placencia, Belize Very Safe, Very Clean Lots of Cruisers
08 February 2018 | Placencia, Belize
The weather hasn't changed much - ENE to E at 13-18 with occasional rain showers
So we've finally arrived in Placencia; the Key West of Belize. A small, very friendly town where cruisers hang out before heading north to Mexico , east to Roatan or south to Guatemala.
We are waiting for some mail from the US and enjoying the slower pace of this area. Much different from Belize City which I would not choose to visit again. Dirty, unsafe and filled with peddlers selling stuff; and the prices are just about twice what we pay in the US. A bottle of 750ml red wine is about $17USD and a bottle of vodka will run you close to $30USD. But who is complaining.... ME!!
We intend to spend more time out in the Cays searching for that ideal harbor and secluded beach. After that it will most likely be an overnight sail to Roatan and then west to Rio Dulce, Guatemala.
I'm still thinking of the Eastern Caribbean later this spring but that is a very big decision due to the amount of sailing time and effort to get there.
