We've returned home to Addison to be with our family for a couple of months. Our flight from Guatemala to Chicago involved an lengthy layover in Panama. So we booked a hotel near the airport, called Uber and went off to see the Panama Canal. We visited the Miraflores lock on the Pacific Coast side nearest to Panama City. This is a you tube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U0gk8YhSZc
We took some pictures from the roof observation deck at the visitor's center. A very well done center with movies, exhibits, a restaurant and the observation decks.
For us it was revealing to see how easily cruisers like us can make the transition into and out of the locks. The lock with the cruisers was shared by a very large container ship moved by the electric cars. They positioned the ship to within several boat lengths of the three rafted cruisers. It must be exciting to look behind you and see the bow of this huge ship just feet away.
