Hold your breath!!

We went on an amazing walk today through history in the Karangahake Gorge en route to Auckland.
This is where gold was mined and cyanide was used for the first time in the world in the extraction process.
Suspension bridges over the fast flowing river took us to a tunnel that had us marveling at the ingenuity of the engineering and construction of it.
Construction begun on this 1,070 meter long railway tunnel in 1900 and was completed by 1905
It's the longest tunnel we've ever walked through...
Took us a full 20 minutes from one end to the other...
in semi-darkness,
the light at the end of the tunnel guiding us.
We're glad we hadn't taken our usual bet to hold our breaths for the duration of passage thro!!!
Pretty amazing stop.
