Maggie
We have spent two nights in Coromandel Town on the Coramandel Peninsula, the hub of mussel farming, a multi billion dollar industry here in New Zealand.
Nev got to go fishing today...
and came home very happy with his Snapper "catch of the day" and the biggest of the bunch on the boat!!
Yay Nev!
He really enjoyed learning about the mussel business...
they fished right next to the farms because the fish love any scraps they can get there.
The mussel seedlings are brought here from 90 mile Beach, put in sacks attached to ropes, and here they take 2 years to grow to full size!
90% are exported!
We didn't have mussels but thoroughly enjoyed our fresh fishy dinner tonight!
Tomorrow we are going off the grid for a few days as we take a walking/biking trip around the tip of the peninsula...
really looking forward to it and ever so thankful for the creation of electric bikes!!
