The sights of Sydney.
11 March 2020 | Sydney, Australia.
Maggie
I arrived in Sydney, Australia, this morning after a very comfy cross-Pacific flight where the only evidence of corona-virus on board was the announcement over the air encouraging frequent hand washing and a questionnaire to be completed for Australian customs.
I still can't believe my feet have finally touched Aussie soil!
Sydney is beautiful!
It reminds me so much of Cape Town sans the cloud draped mountain.
It's clean and bustling (5 million residents) and the waterfront stretches on and on and on.
Skyscrapers reach up amongst historic old buildings...
and there is much construction on the go here in the capital of the oldest Australian state of New South Wales.
My priority was to see the Opera House with my own eyes...
and the Sydney Harbor Bridge...
so I caught a ferry to Barangaroo which took me right by both.
And then I walked back along the harbor front, enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of this new environment, and a visit to the Opera House.
I was amazed at the color of the "shell" roof; I thought it was white but it’s really a creamy mass of tiny chevrons joined together that effectively reflect the sunlight!
The parks are lush and green and there are many of them all over, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike during the lunch break hour.
I walked until my feet ached and my body, confused by the time change, said "shower and nap time" and I listened!
Tomorrow I'm signed up for the twilight Bridge climb...
can't wait to wake up!
Just wish my Nev was here...
though I know the idea of the Bridge climb would be horrible to him!!
Tonight I'm praying for good news about JURNEE being available for pick-up...
