Mesmerizing meerkats.

We spent two hours this morning with the meerkats who habitate this particular concession.
There is a family of 8, 4 adults and 4 young, and they were delightful to watch.
We learned that they are not diggers of their own holes, preferring to occupy and maintain those burrows deserted by others, saving their energy for digging and scratching for food, which they did with great enthusiasm
inbetween regular stops to stand up on their hind legs, checking earth and sky for predators.
They eat ants, spiders, scorpions - that kinda thing.
Nev was lucky enough to actually see one catch and eat a scorpion.
I, on the other hand, was sitting on the ground photographing these cutie pies when one jumped onto my arm, then my shoulder, finally settling on my head for a while, I'm presuming in an effort to get a better view!
While we enjoyed them, Shatty set up coffee and rusks for us to enjoy in this lovely locale.
Such fun!
