First impressions

First impressions can set the tone - thankfully ours didn't!
We have moved from Merida, Yucatán, to Tulum, Quintana Roo.
Our booked hotel was definitely not as it appeared in the pictures on line, so, at 5:30pm we were searching for alternate accommodation!
The taxi cabs here operate like the Mafia and name any outrageous price they like since they have control of the zona hotelera on the beachfront.
A costly ride took us to our new place, Hotel Borda. We weren't too sure about this one either as we seemed to traipse off into the jungle but oh! What sheer delight when we were warmly welcomed and when we saw the oasis we'd be spending the next three nights in - thank YOU!!
Turns out this was all in our favor since the beaches have been closed for a "red tide" and the winds are blowing more sea grass onto the sand.
First impressions of Tulum were not great but they have been changed and we're looking forward to exploring more.
For now, it's a yummy cocktail and deep breaths and big smiles as we settle in!
