Leaving Puerto Rico
05 January 2019 | Puerto Real
ICS
Tomorrow Sunday we intend to cross ththe Mona Passage and pass along the South coast of the Dominican Republic. We do not intend to stop there as we are all provisioned up for the empty shelves of Cuba, but we may have to if there are problems. At present we are in the very pleasant little marina at Puerto Real which is a couple of miles North of Boqueron. Here we have cleared out( Ah yes customs are shut at the weekend so you have to go to the airport, about 1 hour drive) have done more shopping and topped the boat up with fuel, water etc. I have still not got the generator to go and my last effort, lasting all day much to G's disgust, resulting in stripping the thread on the lift pump and making it good with fast setting epoxy. I found a leaking fuel pipe and thought we were home and dry, but it was not to be. Next time we are stuck somewhere I will have another go!
The photo is of Boqueron Anchorage, a very pleasant stopping place. There was a border patrol and police dock hidden in the mangroves and they were often out practicing catching drug runners, even more annoying than the jetskis.
Weather looks to be moderating so we hope the crossing is not too bad.
