Georgetown
09 February 2019 | Sand Dollar beach, Georgetown
Ian
There are well over 200 boats in the Georgetown anchorage which is 3 miles long and a mile wide between some islands on the east and the main Exuma island. We are off Sand dollar beach in 5 metres and are now surrounded by boats which have arrived after us. We dinghied to town to get provisions from tbe well appointed but expensive supermarket, but its a 3 mile round trip and we got wet . Next time we will take the boat over and have a shorter dinghy ride. The weather is due to get quite windy tonight and for the rest of the weekend so yesterday we went to the beach and had a "hike" round the island we are anchored off. Very few people there as they all congregate at a beach bar further along. There is a very active community of cruisers here and a good cruisers radio net each morning.
We are looking at moving on next Wednesday when the winds are more favourable so are trying to work out our route through the shallow waters. Also looking for a marina to leave boat in while we come home mid March. Might have another look at generator while we hunker down but with all the winds the wind generators seem to be doing OK.
