Back to the Azores

Just when we thought we were doing OK there was a loud bang from astern. The boat has 2 backstays which join together about 10 feet up and then one shroud to the mast top. The starboardf U bolt which attaches the stay to the deck had sheared off beneath the deck.
I have tied it on with dyneema (stronger than steel) and have secured the port one with dyneema, as well as securing a halyard from the masttop to the stern.. Hopefully that will secure the rig if the port side shears. All sails are down and we are motoring back to Ponta Delgarda to get it
fixed and checked. It was over 600 miles to Portugal and about 1000 back hiome with stronger winds. The winds are light back to Ponta so a no brainer really, despite the disappointment as we are both keen to get home.
Lets hope there are no more nasty surprises in wait and we can get back there OK.
Hope to arrive Tuesday.
