Rock Sound
05 March 2007

We woke up Sunday morning and had a leisurely breakfast before 9AM mass. We attended St. Anne's with 10 other townspeople. The church was once run by a group of sisters from Canada but they have since left and the church is struggling to survive. Priests rotate every 3-4 weeks making it difficult to establish a close-knit congregation. We met a local couple from the Philippines. Later that afternoon after finishing all of our chores we visited the couple at their house. He is the local doctor on the island who once had Kaiser Permenante as one of his patients in the 70's. We learned a lot of local history about the attitudes and personas of the Eleutherans.
The following day we completed the remainder of our chores after a long morning walk the north shore for exercise. Due to the number of fronts passing through we may not leave Rock Sound until Wednesday. When we arrived we set for SE winds. Resetting our anchor for N winds was a smart move on our part because the winds picked up to over 20knots in the harbor. We will continue our journey north on Wednesday to Governors Harbour. The weather is supposed to moderate this week however the seas in the NW Providence Channel will still be too large for a crossing to the Abacos later in the week. They are predicting 11ft swells. When we crossed last time we had 4-6 ft swells, which proved to be a difficult crossing.
