Join us for a trip from New York to Tasmania, and back, we hope. Departing Saturday.

First Night at Sea

The fog lifted at 1900 and the light winds veered so we could comfortably lay our course for the favorable Gulf Stream spot. Pleasant sailing indeed, if a little chilly!

I made a mushroom and pepper risotto for our first supper at sea, served with poached asparagus drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice.

On the midnight watch, the wind freshened and we were making over seven knots on the lay line for a while. Then the moon disappeared in an eclipse, and, eerily, just as the last sliver darkened the wind dropped and veered, causing gentle accidental gybe with the locked helm. Then the fog dropped back in, and we are easing on our way at five knots in the fog at midnight.
