Join us for a trip from New York to Tasmania, and back, we hope. Departing Saturday.

Waiting for a Pilot

We are anchored just outside the marina, waiting for our pilot, who is due at 1800 ours, but the pilots are notorious for arriving late. Technically, our guide is an “advisor” and not a full fledged pilot.

our three professional line handlers, Jose, Kale, and john arrived at noon and hung around the marina until we left at 1600. They seem to know what they are doing, and only Jose speaks any English - so I am doing my best in Spanish. Robins is our fourth line habdler.
Our transi is split over two days - this evening we will pass through the Gatun Locks to Lake Gatun, then moor for the night on the lake. Jose, Kale, and John will stay on board, while our new advisor will arrive at 0700 tomorrow.

Looking forward with some trepidation to the locks - boats get spun around all the time. Looks like we will be locking up on the dark. We will be rafted with Sea Angel, a catamaran.
