Join us for a trip from New York to Tasmania, and back, we hope. Departing Saturday.

Mata Pupu Peak

Having read the reviews on AllTrails, we came up with alternate shorthand names for some of the hiking opportunities here on Bora Bora. So Mata Pupu became “flip flops,”. Mt Otemanu’s flank became “twenty two weeks pregnant.,” and Mt Pahia became “injured hiker.”

Today, after and early breakfast, we rode and walked our bikes up to the radio towers at the gap and hiked the “flip flops” trail to Mata Pupu. It rained a little on the way up, and the last section was a rock scramble up an old volcanic cone, but the view from the top was splendid. At 863 feet, it is almost half as high as the higher peaks of the island.

Then we returned to the boat, rolled out the jib, and sailed to the Bora Bora yacht club mooring area for a change of scene. On the way, the mooring service boat caught up with us, so we paid for our week at the moorings by Bloody Mary’s and the first night off the yacht club - about $35 per night.
