Yippee doo dah! The young folks arrived!
Our daughter Mary Beth, her boyfriend Jeremy and their friends Leila and Talia arrived on a flight from Halifax via Newark on Sunday. Robert drove us to the international airport to meet them and after an hour’s wait, they finally emerged – tired, smiling and empty-handed. Their luggage hadn’t made it past Newark. We brought them all back to the marina and the boat where, in short order, we had pina coladas in their hands and borrowed sarongs and shorts on their bodies. They are all students at Dalhousie Medical School and had written exams the day before so they were exhausted. The beach beckoned and after lunch, they all headed for the sun and sand. Despite the distinctly uncomfortable wooden lounge chairs, all four of them (yes Jeremy – you too, briefly) were soon napping – lulled by full tummies, the sound of waves and the warmth of the sun – and lack of sleep!
They all stayed onboard the good ship Madcap Sunday night – proving once again that 6 adults really can sleep on a Bayfield 36 – and enjoyed coffee, cereal, yogurt, papaya and pineapple in the cockpit on Monday. We toured the strange little museum here at Old Belize, browsed the gift shop (no big spenders in this lot) and after many calls regarding their bags, decided the best thing was to go in person to see if they came in on the flight Monday morning. We had rented a car for some inland travel so Jim drove them back to the airport for a successful retrieval of their luggage before delivering Leila and Talia to the water taxi dock for their trip to Caye Caulker.
It was so much fun to have all of them for one night – I’m glad it worked out well for them, too.
