Safely and happily in New Zealand

This is one gorgeous country! We've had a quick look at Auckland with huge marinas and lots of sailboats, but it was foggy and cool so we'll see more when we come back in 3 weeks, and then headed farther north to visit the Kauri forest where we saw 1000 year old Kauri trees and our very first Kiwi (of the bird variety!) Lots of driving yesterday back down through the city and across a wicked (as in the positive adventurous sense) narrow gravel road through the Corromandel mountains to this charming little town on the west coast of the peninsula. Campervan living is great fun although it was a little shocking to discover that the $20 campground price in the books means per person, not per van, and the sites are tiny - glad we are here in shoulder season when there are only a few of us so we take up 2 or 3 spaces. People told us it was expensive here - and it is - for gas, museums, events and campgrounds. But hiking and scenery are free! People are friendly. Scenery is spectacular, and today the weather is lovely.
