rainy Roatan
25 January 2014 | Fantasy Island marina, French Cay Harbour, Roatan
Beth / dripping but warm
We got here on Wednesday afternoon after 30 hours of motor sailing. No terrible (or particularly helpful) winds, seas ranging from 2 to 8ft, some stars about 3 am, dolphins about 7am, a couple of freighters, and torrential rain from 9am till noon. We have taken advantage of a nice dock space on the back side of Fantasy Island for a while during the continuing fronts that pass through. (No dragging toward the reef this time - remember that night, Liam??)
We enjoyed a lovely lion fish-fry on Wednesday evening as we met up again with Steve and Sandi (Yonder) and Suzie and John (Cabaret) and met many more cruisers in the anchorage and at Fantasy Island and Brooksey's Point marinas.
Alex had one lovely sunny day of snorkelling and swimming on Thursday before we took him to the local airport on Friday for a flight to Guatemala City and then home to Ottawa on Saturday. What a treat it has been to have two whole weeks of his company.
It has rained ever since then, the fridge quit, the ports are still leaky and the noseeums are biting - but we're still happy to be here! It's a beautiful spot with friendly folks, lots to do and see, and no snow to shovel. And we just know the rain will stop, the fridge will work again, and the noseeums will stop .... uh no. That's entirely too much to hope for!
