East River

27 September 2015 | Sandy Hook
We set off yesterday morning to run the East river through New York. The wind was forecast to be up for the next couple of days but with how quick it can change we thought we would rather be at Sandy Hook and ready to make the jump to Cape May if it changed quickly in the right direction.

It was a great run. I'm glad that we saw the City by land first and were able to appreciate what we were looking at from the water. The UN was in session so we even had an armed escort past the UN building!

The boys really enjoyed looking at all the buildings and bridges. Even the downtown Helicopter pad for the Wall Street commute was something else. It must have had 10-15 choppers on it the whole time with more coming and going.

We sailed past the One World Trade Center which was gleaming in the morning light. Onwards across the bay to the Statue of Liberty. It was huge!! Unfortunately at the time there was a great big speed boat (Tour jet boat) doing donuts right beside us so the boys were somewhat distracted;>

The wind was up so we sailed from there to Sandy Hook to wait out the worst of the easterlies. We were invited to supper on Noah and Sarah's boat, a liveaboard couple that live aboard in the Harbour. It was great night and we hope to run into them again along the way!

We spent the 27th sitting in Sandy Hook baking and generally cleaning up and preparing to head back out to sea tomorrow. There is more weather coming mid week so we have decided to try to make the run for Cape May (Or Atlantic city if the Weather doesn't cooperate. So Early morning tomorrow! Would have left tonight but the lack of sleep from the winds last night doesn't bode well for a night run.
