Hitting the Mangroves
13 March 2016 | Shroud to Highbourne
Up anchored this morning to a quick motor up to Shroud. All of us jumped into the dingy to head for a run into the Mangroves. What a spot!! We managed to go in the wrong way but picked our way out to the ocean. As we were walking along the beach we saw a shark swimming in the waves. We turned back and picked our way out to camp driftwood. This spot was built in the 60's by a liveaboard that was staying on his boat then used as a base by US agents to monitor the Norman's Cay drug trafficking. The beach there was spectacular and we all enjoyed another swim as the day had become hot.
I was glad that we brought the umbrella and acted the part of local tour guide through the mangroves as there wasn't much wind in there but a hell of a lot of sun.
We meandered our way back to the boat and proceeded to Highbourne where we planned to meet up with a kid boat Abby Singer. On the way we saw Aquataura with Denise and Terry. Haven't seen them since Cocoa Beach!! Good to see they made it down. May catch up with them in the Abacos
Enroute we put the dingy overboard and I towed Arleigh behind the dingy on his knee board. Got some great action shots of the boat and us as well. Check them out in our gallery.
Arrived at Highbourne to meet up with Abby Singer, Andrew, Summer, Paige and Skye were already on the beach and we hit it off right away. I think Andrew and I had met for about 5 minutes before we grabbed a couple of beers and went to do some spear fishing! No luck but the beers were good and by the time we got back the kids were playing like they had always known each other. Andrew dropped by for a few wets later on and we discussed the usual boater stuff, where to go, what to bring spare parts. Turns out they are well kitted out they even have a spare Transmission! (You will see the irony in that soon)!!
