Repaired!!
25 March 2016 | Spanish Wells
Clear of Nassau
After all the repairs were finished and money spent we left Nassau and headed to the North of Rose Island for the night in preparation to leave to Spanish Wells. There was a great beach there and the boys decided to dig a mine in the side of the hill. They made a big project of it including building their own tools and shoring the walls and ceiling. It was about 5ft deep by the end of the day!!
Had a bit of a rolly night for sleeping but were in the right spot to leave early in the morning. We had a great sail all the way to Spanish Wells and managed to get a mooring right in close to the town.
We actually liked the short walk we had in town so much we decided to take at least a day and check it out. So the next morning we got up early and rented a golf cart for the day. It was pretty good to have wheels for the first time in months and we traipsed all over the island checking the place out. We found where the locals go swimming and the boy jumped off the bridge there so quick I didn't even have time to get the camera out for the first one! I did finally get a pic of their next jump though! There was a deflated life raft there with the canister halves. The boys, the first full day off the boat in months, decided to play boat with them!!!
After a while at the beach we headed to the Sand Bar farther out on the island for adult time. While drinking a beer Sam came up to me and hands me a mini bottle of Fireball. Hmm that's perfect I'll keep that one for later I thought. Then he comes with a couple of other bottles... That's when I realize something is up. After speaking with the bartender she informs me there is a "Easter Hunt" for the bottles later. Sam and Arleigh put them back and then began to scope out where the rest were. There were only a few people at the bar so when it actually came time the boys helped them find some of them while I went the other direction not feeling it would be fair that the boys knew where half of them were already!! It was pretty fun.
After the hunt we jumped back in the cart and headed to the beach for a quick cool off.
We went back to the boat to shower and change then headed to Budda's for supper. All in all a great day!!
Easter Sunday
We woke up to more wind than forecast so decided to stay put for one more day. The boys discovered that the Easter bunny had come during the night and left them some surprises! Tilley must have gotten into a pink candy as there was pink streaks all over the boat and the cat was crazy on a sugar high! One of the things the bunny brought was a fishing lure for each one of the boys. Can't wait to try them out.
Took the dingy back to the beach for the afternoon and had a relaxing day. A new boat on the mooring behind us had trouble with their windlass. With parts hard to order I told her I would take a look. Managed to jury rig the gears to make it work hopefully until the new ones make it from Ireland!!
Heading out tomorrow to the Abacos!
