Long time coming
03 April 2016 | Sea of Abaco and around.
Wow,
first time I've let the blog slip this far and man its daunting to try and catch up.
After our night in Marsh Harbour we had a visitor from home. My Brother Neil arrived in style that evening looking like a ghost but with a smile on his face.
Neil was down for a week where we hung out for a much needed vacation around the Abacos. We went up to Guana Cay where he got to snorkel for the first time in Caribbean waters. He was thrilled but we had to tell him there was more to come once the weather allowed us to head to the outer reefs.
At Guana Cay we visited the famous Nippers, unfortunately (Or fortunately depending on how you look at it) it was a Monday and there were not as many people as there could have been so we stopped and had snacks and socialized with some other cruisers. The boys ran around the beach and then hit the pool to help get all the sand off.
The next day we sailed down to Hopetown to make sure our mooring was all set up for us. Unfortunately there had been some confusion and our reserve buoy had been removed. We found it and sorted everything out and had a great night. Went to the Marina pool and bar for happy hour and met some more Canadians.
The next run we did was to Man o'War Cay and rented a golf cart for the day to trip around with. Nice to have wheels again. Neil's background in wooden boats can trace its origins here to the founder of the Apprentice shop where he did his apprenticeship. That night Neil went to go for a spin on the island and found out that the golf cart was gone!! Turns out they all have the same key on the island. He was told just to use the one that was there and it would be sorted out in the morning. (Island style)
After that the weather was fine to actually go and snorkel off of Fowl Cay which is a land and sea park. The reef was incredible and we got to snorkel with Turtles not to mention a few big Barracudas.
For lunch we decided to take the BBQ off the boat and bring it into the beach. It was Sam's own secluded island he has wanted the entire trip.
After that we headed back to Hopetown. That night we went to bed after listening to Captain Jacks bar having a blast. Neil and I decided the next day we would go there once the kids were in bed.
Capt. Jacks was hopping again the next night so we headed over. Met up with a couple of pilots that fly VIP's to the island. Had a number drinks with them and then went for a late night burble to see the stars. Then decided it was late so we should head back.
Neil's Trip went by too fast but hope to do another one with him in the future. It was too much fun to pass up.
