Jamie
Day 4 and ah, we have our appetites back today! Casey cooked cheesy eggs on toast for breakfast and it tasted GOOD. We had been eating on several meals I had prepared ahead of time which was fortuitous to say the least. No one felt like cooking until yesterday. So, here is an example of smart cruiser cooking: Casey was the first to hit the galley yesterday and he made what we call "Blanca" soup, first, because it is potato based and white, and second, it reminds us of the kind of potato based soups we ate in Bolivia cooked for us by a woman named Blanca. Anyway, it is always a very mild soup with garlic, onion, ginger and potatoes and maybe carrots (poquito color). We had leftovers that we let sit in the pressure cooker overnight and today I just threw in a can of corn, tomatoes, and mushrooms with a tbsp of tomato paste to thicken it up and a few spices because we were ready for some flavor. A few minutes under pressure, et voila, we had tomato-veg soup over fusilli pasta. And we still have leftover that I might incorporate into a pasta sauce for tomorrow! Yes, this is the excitement of our days out here. The little things.
