Nova Scotia - Part 1

Our first day in Nova Scotia was a mix of beautiful weather, pleasurablsightseeing, delicious food and more of the exceptional Canadian generosity.

We took a stroll through Canso and visited, of course, the fishing wharf where we learned about swordfish and shrimp fishing. A shrimp fisherboat had just come in and they generously gave us some of their catch - lunch was literally in the bag! A short hike around Grassy Island took care of desert - we couldn't resist munching on blueberries and raspberries that grew in abundance there.

That evening, when we dinghied around our anchorage, chatting with other cruisers at anchor, we were invited by a very nice couple who had their cabin up the hill from where we had dropped the hook. They told us that they brought in all the supplies to build the cabin as well as he dock by boat and had to haul it up the hill. The result was a very cozy cabin with a stunning view over the bay.

Later that evening, they stopped by our boat and dropped off a bucket of lobster!!! Can you believe that!!! We had steamed lobster for lunch the following day, Lobster Alfredo that evening and lobster salad for lunch the day after. Yummy!! Thank you again soooooooo very much!


Neuschottland - Teil 1

Unser erster Tag in Nova Scotia war eine Mischung aus schönem Wetter, Sightseeing, leckerem Essen und noch mehr von der außergewöhnlichen kanadischen Gastfreundschaft.

Wir schlenderten durch Canso und besuchten natürlich den Hafen, wo wir uns mit den Fischern über den Fang von Garnelen und Schwertfischen unterhalten haben. Ein Krabbenfischer war gerade eingelaufen und schenkte uns großzügig eine Tüte voll mit seinem Fang - für das Mittagessen war also gesorgt! Eine kleine Wanderung um Grassy Island sorgte für den Nachtisch - Blaubeeren und Himbeeren wuchsen dort in Hülle und Fülle.

Am Abend, als wir an unserem Ankerplatz herumdümpelten und uns mit anderen Cruisern unterhielten, wurden wir von einem sehr netten Ehepaar eingeladen, das ein Wochenendhaus auf dem Hügel oberhalb der Bucht hatte. Sie haben uns erzählt, dass sie für den Bau des Hauses und der Anlegestelle das gesamte Material mit ihrem Boot herbringen und den Hügel hinauf schleppen mussten.Das Ergebnis war eine gemütliche Hütte mit einem fantastischen Ausblick.

Später am Abend kamen sie an unserem Boot vorbei und brachten uns einen Eimer Hummer!!! Unglaublich!!! So gab es am nächsten Tag gedämpften Hummer zum Mittagessen, am Abend Hummer Alfredo und am nächsten Tag Hummersalat. Lecker!! Nochmals vielen, vielen Dank!
