Mid Atlantic States

The weather forced a hastily departure from Maine. We spent a week cruising to Atlantic Highlands NJ where we visited family. It wasn't the "easiest" trip but we made it safely (note to self, never try to cross Long Island Sound in 20-25 knots of wind on the nose). We almost got stuck north of New York city for 5 days due to the closing of the west channel of the East River due to the security zone around the UN where all the worlds leaders were meeting. The coast guard ended up calling a bridge tender to open up the bridge on the east side channel of the East River so us and three other vessels could pass. Lucky for us as we would have had to motor against the increasing current in Hell Gate.
We are currently motoring in calm seas in the Chesapeak Bay to put Makana on a dock for the month. Then on Nov. 1st we'll head south.
