I have discovered a significant geographic anomaly about the 30 degree latitude mark. It may be the fact that particular parallel is two-thirds the distance from the north pole and one-third to the equator. It seems at this latitude the weather; particularly the winter air temperature takes a noticeable change. After departing Charleston SC on Fri. at noon with temps in the lower 50’s dropping to the upper 30’s that night as we motored south in clear skies with a nice 3-4 foot swell pushing us along we were hoping to experience some of that temp change. And so it was after a 200+ mile passage as we crossed the 30th parallel at 4pm on Saturday afternoon the air temp was in the 70’s. And the forecasted low here in St. Augustine FL where we are currently on a mooring is higher than the forecasted highs we’ve experienced for the past three weeks.
