Seven thousand miles of outstanding cruising since November 2008 means it's time to do a little renovation and more planning for the future. Find out what ...
While we have been involved with multiple passages from the Bahamas, north back to the U.S. our children have been following their various paths. Rupert works for the Ram Craft Brewery company in Tacoma, WA and Daisy and Keith (newly-wed) moved to New Orleans, LA - his native city to do their bit for its re-vitalization. Archie who turns 21 in June and is the "baby" has picked up the thoroughbred horse racing mantle. He has recently been lucky enough to travel with the best three year old filly in the country, called Blind Luck trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. She won the Fantasy Stakes in Arkansas in April and then Archie was sent with her to Churchill Downs in Kentucky to run in the Kentucky Oaks. This is the female equivalent of the Kentucky Derby that is run the following day. The first clip is of Archie exercising Blind Luck one morning at Churchill Downs. The second clip is of the race which she won by a tiny whisker with race jockey Rafael Bejarano aboard. Those close races make you run hot and cold all at the same time; a sensation not unlike seasickness come to think of it.
On this Mother's Day I thank my lucky stars to have three successful, hard working children who all remembered to call their mum.
Having spent 30 years in the racehorse business we felt it was time for a different kind of adventure.
Both originally from England we have sailed for fun for over 30 years. We have owned MANDY for five of those and are planning to head south for Mexico etc. in November 2008 - ready or not. [...]
When we get to Panama we will decide which way to turn; through the canal or across the big puddle. The eventual goal, whether by boat or not, is Galicia in north-west Spain where we have a ruined farm cottage and barn (pictures in the galleries) that we plan to restore.
We love our 3 grown children and our parents but this window of time is reserved just for us. It has been a long time coming. World economy sucks. So what?
