02 July 2010 | Between Nuku Hiva and Tuamotas and intended landfall Rangiroa

Hello clyde need some weather.....my position is 11 06 S 142 35 W and contrary to what Im hearing and seeing the weather seems to be going downhill....am now sort of racing a storm of my P side...could be just squall conditions. Am headed to Rangiroa Tuamotos. Can you see what you find there tomorrow and the next day.....nasty landfalls and treacherous passes ala Bahamas. If its blowing like stink, will pass it up and head to Tahiti

Rain is catching me right now....so we may be in for it.

Am going from the absolutely enchanted tall Nuku Hiva to the fascinating short Tuamotos and ever since leaving its been 20 plus and pretty big rollers.....and confused 6 foot chop on top. Solid 8 to 13 speeds all the way.

I begin to be convinced of some of the strengths of Shearwater...handles big surfing conditions very very well, never giving inkling (so far) of a broach(flipping over sideways).

Mango is a smart, funny, sensitive and totally unique wheaton/sheepdog. . He is my partner on this patently undoglike voyage but remains cheerful about the whole affair. [...]
Extra: Shearwater is a 47 foot, very sleek and light catamaran. She is part of a fleet of 11 that were built - its a sister ship of Shearwater that holds the unofficial speed record. 31 knots! Of the this fleet, only one has flipped...so we are on the side of good odds!
