CROSSING THE INTERNATIONAL DATELINE
07 August 2010 | One day from Suva, Capital of Fiji
In approximately 15 miles, Shearwater will cross the international dateline. We will skip ahead one day and the longitude lines, the lines that run north and south on the world grid, will change from 180 degrees West to 180 degrees East. And instead of adding degrees of longitude, as we move from east to west, we will begin subtracting. Leaving Panama so many months ago, we began at approximately 076W longitude and we are now approaching 180W. One degree equals 60 miles.
The 'crew' and I will be toasting but .....we dont know who to toast to and dont want to offend any god at this point! We are so close...less than 24 hours to Suva, Fiji.
