08 August 2011 | Western Arafura Sea-Does anyone know where the Indian Ocean officially begins?
After a month of unceasing, howling trade winds, we have left their domain(if only for now) and are now in the middle of peace and calm. Apparently, according to the weather report via what they call "GRIB" files, a graphic illustration that comes in through the SSB radio, we are to expect this condition for some days to come. How nice to amble along at about 3-4 knots...for a change. The sun shines brilliantly giving the boat energy through its 8 solar panels while those 'whirring wind generators' seem lost with nothing to turn their propellers.
Christmas Island lies ahead 1300 miles. As it is an Australian territory, I have to get there before my visa runs out on September 1. Speaking of legalities, every day an AU plane buzzes me, then contacts me on the radio making sure my legal intentions of yesterday have not alterned during the night!
So with autopilot alarms set to go off in case we stop entirely, Im going to fire up the stove and cook something...TOFU sounds good.
