DIVERTING TO COCOS KEELING....PERHAPS
01 September 2011 | On the way to Mauritius
A computer has become such an integral part of modern-day navigation - hence there's not one amongst us that doesnt live in fear of the seemingly inevitable 'crash'. And Im no exception....I rely on it for virtually all communication to the outside world... and my maps... and all weather reports...and of course for 'mangoandme'. Yesterday, indeed, the 'inevitable' happened. It simply wouldnt turn on. I could hear all the workings on the inside buzzing away but no screen. I pleaded, I cried, I stroked it, I....I .... and then by a mistake I dropped it on the table(slightly annoyed) and it sprang to life. Oh thank God!
But today, as yesterday, the same thing. So I hit it and, once again, it dutifully sprang to life. Not a good situation-relying on punishment for access.
So I have been in discussion with Australian customs and may divert to Cocos Keeling. I have, in fact, been given permission as, under International Law,if an emergency exists, then a vessel must be allowed to 'land'.
So for the time being, if said computer no longer responds to said punishment and instead turns off forever... you will know why there are no more posts.
