HAVE LEFT COCOS KEELING
08 September 2011 | On the way to Mauritius

This morning Shearwater and I left the protected bay of Cocos Keeling and now are on the rhumb line for Mauritius, approximately 2300 miles ahead. I am going slowly with reefed jib as the seas are confused and roughish. And I want to minimize the stress on the rig and hull. The swell comes every 10-12 seconds and is about 9-12 feet. As long as that time period between swells doesnt diminish too much we are ok. Also right now, the swell from the SW has not yet materialized and all comes from the SE which is certainly better - wind, waves, swell and Shearwater all agreeing - go west! Night is approaching and we are hoping.....no squalls!
