REPAIRS REPAIRS

A major part of any circumnavigation is keeping the boat in tip top shape and this stop at Richards Bay has afforded me the chance to make, what I hope will be, the final repairs before the big leg home.
Spent about 2 hours underwater changing the zincs on the propellers. These funny pieces of zinc are actually called 'sacrificial' in that any electrolysis (which 'eats' metals) eats the softest metals first and zincs are the softest. So we put them on the boat to save the crucial pieces of metal..ie the propellers which are bronze.
Here in the picture we are about to descend into the murky waters under the boat for the final assembly. My new found friends Becky and Ike were extremely kind to not only lend me all the diving equipment but, in Ike's case, to actually come down with me and complete the project....a big big thank you.
