THE ITCZ!!

15 April 2012 | On the way to the Caribbean

The ITCZ or Intertropical Convergence Zone more commonly known as the Doldrums. At approximately the equator, two great forces meet, expecting to fight it out, the SE tradewinds and the NE tradewinds. They each bring their considerable climatic forces to a battleground approximately 200 to 300 miles wide, lining up head to head. Then, just as they are about to bear arms and begin this epic confrontation, something extraordinary happens. As though beguiled by the other, awed, they begin a sultry, tangoesque dance... introverted, quiet. Instead of fury, speed, destruction, they lock themselves into an embrace of heat, light breaths of air, sweating humidity, low...slow pressure...a cool shower.

Convergence zone, eh? - Im heading there right now.
