Update from Horta

Harry's barbecue turned out to be great fun. Harry scrounged up a great huge grill, real charcoal, and a ton of meat of all kinds. Cruisers and locals brought tables full of side dishes. It was windy and intermittently rainy, but these are tough people.....no one minded. Lots of conversation about everything; sailing and cruising, weather, politics, life in the Azores. Harry called on Owen and Ian to play and sing and was ecstatic......"all we needed was music". They got lots of attention and applause. The food was great, but the best was the local tuna, seared on the outside. What a delicacy!
We love the Azorean cheese and wine, and the tuna.....
The place was still rocking when I called it a night at 11.
The north wind blew me back to the boat and moaned through the rigging all night long, as the dock lines creaked with the strain. Snug in my sleeping bag, it was a nice night to be tied to the wharf and not sailing in the open ocean.
No visit to the Faial would be complete without a stop at Peter's Sport Cafe, run by the Azavedos family since 1906, with its associated scrimshaw museum. With food, good drink, and a friendly ambience, it is not to be missed. We've spent a couple of memorable evenings there. And, as my friend, Jim, pointed out to me, the museum is unique and fascinating.
We are well and having a great time. Time to get ready for sea.....heading out Wednesday, weather permitting.
