On Our Way to Ireland

WE were delighted to get underway yesterday morning. With plenty of provisions, fuel, water, and propane, we were ready to go. The evening before the welder arrived and rearranged our stern rail so that the Wind Pilot could steer us effectively. In the morning, Harry took us out for a tune up and demo of the Wind Pilot, and we took off. The hardest part of leaving was saying good bye to the many friends we had made in the Azores, several of whom came out to see us off. One wonders if we will see them again. As we made our way to the North, we passed St. George and Graciosa Islands. St. George is particularly striking, with very high black bluffs around the shore. I got a sense of the scale of the bluffs as I looked at the tiny lighthouse on the point and realized that it was 100 feet tall! There was no wind. The sea was flat and smooth, almost oily, so were traveled under power until about 930 this morning, when a nice and favorable breeze popped up. So we are now sailing, powered and steered by the wind. It is a picture-perfect day, and we are all very happy to be back at sea. We have 1000 miles to Ireland. Maybe 10 days, depending on the wind and weather. We are all happy and well, and enjoying our trip immensely!
