Whitehaven to Mull of Galloway
29 May 2019

Had planned to leave Whitehaven at 0900 but left earlier than planned to make use of freeflow and save locking out so it all turned into a rush. Once out I turned towards St Bees and hoisted the main, well about 2/3 of it, the wind was stronger than expected and with about 2/3 of the Genoa out I was flying along at 6kts. Once past the headland I set course for the Mull of Galloway, 20kts of wind and heavy seas all the way, about 5 miles out the wind dropped and I let all the sails out but speed kept falling, I motored in the last two miles. Cockpit instruments failed as I came into the anchorage, which was full of lobster pots, Wh allows this? A very rocky night ahead, once I got the instruments fixed I moved closer to the cliff to get out of the wind which had picked up again but I couldn’t get away from the swell.
