The weather is changing here... who says you have to stay in the Midwest for a change of seasons.

National Key Deer Refuge

Visited an extraordinary expanse of sea islands. This area contains 22 threatened or endangered species. Saw Key deer everywhere along the road. They are very small about the size of a medium dog.

No Name Pub

Had lunch at the oldest pub in the area. Friendlly people, long history, great food, lousy service ( that is what their menu says), and a beautiful garden. Decorated with live key deer.

Center of the Keys

Marathon key is known as the "Heart & Soul" of the keys, due to its central location and rustic ambiance.

John and Shirley aboard Mariposa Left St Joseph at 7 AM headed across Lake Michigan toward Chicago

15 10 08 - 14:20
Start of journey Oct 14
After packing everything we could possible think of and then some we left the dock in south haven at Noon Tuesday Oct 14. The lake was rough so we decided to head to Saint Joseph as the first port on our journey. It was raining, about 60 degrees, tHe waves were rough and it took quite of bit of effort to steer the boat under power. The West Basin Marina in St Joseph was a welcome overnight stop before crossing Lake Michigan toward Chicago. our good friends John Steves and Noreen Nielsen drove us uptown to do some last minute shopping and then have dinner at Schu's. We were both very tired so we returned to the boat early to get some sleep before heading out to Chicago early Wednesday.
