Another day with the intention to head to Tau thwarted by lack of wind. A pleasant sail under clear skies but still very cold. Changed the plan to a circumnavigation of Langøy. We were coming down the sound between Langøy and Hundvåg when I knocked my cap off whilst watching the tell-tales so we did a man-overboard drill to retrieve it. As we were alongside I was just reaching with the boathook when Luke, who had unexpectedly gone onto the bathing platform and was reaching out too, slipped and fell in. His lifejacket inflated and fortunately he had also clipped on his harness so it was a quick and easy rescue. Although he wasn’t even wet above the chest he was very cold as the water was only 4°C so we stripped him and dressed him in what spare clothes we had with us and put him below with the cabin heater on. Robert was really good in looking after him as we motored back to base. Some good learnings from this incident!
