First Weekend Trip - There
30 June 2012 | Stavanger, Norway
Nevil. S 4, overcast with occasional drizzle, 16°C.
Start / Finish Time: 13:24 / 18:40
Daily distance: 26.3 NM
Spent the morning at home getting organised and then set off in the afternoon for my first overnight trip. With a decent wind forecast for both days I was confident on being able to get a reasonable distance and identified Hervik or Ringstveit as possible destinations on the other side of the Boknafjord. Reached out east to Lindøy and then ran all the way to Hervik at an average of 5kts and hit a max of 7.1kts at one point. Got the autohelm gain adjusted and now have the hang of getting it set up so that it actually keeps a course. Log also keeping pretty well in step with GPSs so now happy with that. Interesting to note that the predicted distance of 26.2NM was almost exactly kept to.
At the head of Hervikfjorden I decided on an anchorage just tucked inside Boevikneset which was perfectly sheltered, quiet and spectacular. Went ashore in Sally and fished of the rocks, catching four mackerel. There was a small beach which would be perfect for building a big fire of all the drift wood. The boys would love it here! Cleaned the fish on board - note to self; do this onshore next time to avoid such a mess. Also need a chopping board on board. Enjoyed sushimi with my G&T before a main of spag bol. Used the fish waste to bait the crab pot before getting in my sleeping bag and dropping off.
