FRIGATE CHICKS IN THE COLONY
CHICKS
Tuesday we dropped into Bahia San Gabriel to visit the Magnificent Frigate colony where Dave and I had seen quite a mating spectacle in the last couple of weeks. That mating paid off, with adorable little fuzzy white chicks looking out of their nests while mom & dad tended them. There were only a few bachelors left, with enormous red throat bulbs bulging and quivering – the rest of the males had deflated red throats and were busy tending their one chick or egg with their mate. Now, if you would like to know any more about the sex life of Frigates, google exactly as I did. There is legitimate research into this bawdy subject involving DNA and all that stuff.

What a house – all handcrafted out of native woods, cut on the property where the house stands, to minimize its footprint. From the water and the hillsides, only the blue roof is visible. Simply unique and lovely, an impressive work of art.
