FINE VILLAGE LIVIN’

Later, that afternoon we stopped at a group of rocks, called Isla Coyote, which is a (TINY) fishing village. Al & I stayed with the boat anchored near the rocks while Dave & Lorrie rowed in to have a look around and purchase shell necklaces from a woman living there. They didn’t buy fish as all that was offered was SkipJack, and there is still plenty of that in the cooler.
We went on to anchor at the little village of San Evaristo. With peaks of Sierra de la Giganta in the background, watching the locals relaxing on a Sunday evening was fun for us. In particular, a group of men were joyously moving a cement mixer in a well filled panga. There was a lot of building going on and obviously the mixer needed to be paired up with bags of cement tucked in storage. It was a job mixed with lots of fun and singing. Meanwhile, a guy on a handsomely saddled horse rode down the beach to check things out. Fishing seems to be a prosperous occupation in San Evaristo as most houses had a pick-up truck parked beside and many had satellite dishes. The town has a school, small store and desalination plant.
