THORNS, ROCKS, A FRAGILE PARADISE
22 April 2011
4/20 RETURNED after a week in the islands, to anchor at sunset in La Paz. Every day a small adventure in cactus studded desert, just above the sea level of stunning turquoise coves. Everyone who writes us says they are envious. Dave & I are envious of ourselves! Whoa, here we ARE! The past days we have endured not only the full moon and its splendors, but strong winds and waves that rock the boat, not gently. During the days there have been amazing, very specific birding expeditions. At first, one would think nothing exists in the rocks and cactus behind the sandy beach. Perspecitve and dimension are flattened. Today we had the intention of a beach walk, and just over the sand dune, found new birds, rabbits, chipmunks, delicately flowering bushes and a grave shrine with the date 1808. As we pulled anchor, Dave spotted an enormous turtle, not so photogenic, we understand about wrinkles and since she must be 100 years older than us, that’s ok. So far, we have not met Arlupo.
We’ll be out sailing for the next two weeks. Heading for Loreto Fest then back to La Paz. Till then, Hasta Luego.
