QUETZAL seen by Fries' 5-21-13
During our two week trip to Guatemala in May we had amazing days of birding. We identified 20 some species in the first days near Antiqua.
Joining John Cahill as our guide at the Community Cloud Forest Conservancy, turned the trip into a once in a lifetime experience (unless we return!)
John met Dave at 5:30 one morning for a birding walk on the Ranch property. It was an excellent birding experience as John knows the birds of Guatemala as well as anyone. Dave saw more than 20 bird species that were new to him, including five species of tanagers.
John accompanied Marj and Dave to the ancient Mayan site of TIKAL and to Los Albores in the magnificent highland forest, Sierra de la Minas, where we "found" the Quetzal. John is a highly qualified bird guide although he is just 17 years old. Many of John's photos appear on the CCFC website cloudforestconservation.org and his flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49549044@N06/
