Dave and I continued on to Guatemala City by local "chicken bus", thinking we'd stay at the Holiday Inn to next day catch "luxury bus" to San Salvador. However, there was no room at the inn or anywhere else in the "right" part of town. No one knew what was going on, but something had all the rooms in town full. The manager at HI,was on the phone for half-hour, determined to find us a room, which we greatly appreciated. We finally were accepted at a smaller, boutique hotel, which was delightful - and the HI manager, refused any tip.
