HOW CRUISERS SPEND THEIR TIME
The laundry ordeal should really be told by Kari, as she was dealing with it for hours on Saturday afternoon. Not all bad, as the woman she finally found, who had our ‘clean’ clothes, worked at one of the bars on the main street – while Kari hung out at a nicer place across the street with deck swings and nice people to visit. However, our two bags of laundry were supposed to be $20 each, which had been bargained with the man the day before. Before the woman could “find” our clothes, Kari had to pay another $20. Sixty bucks is a pretty stiff laundry bill for what we had. And, then, as we were separating and folding it ($60 didn’t include folding) we found ground stickers in many items. We assumed they were hung out on a line or maybe a pasture fence?! And they weren’t very clean. There are no DIY laundramats. Later, we found the going rate for laundry where we asked, in Costa Rica, is $1.50 a piece, regardless of size. An easy to solve problem, wash by hand on the boat. Isn’t it great, laundry… our biggest domestic problem while sailing.
