Some Thoughts

25 October 2018 | Port Angeles, WA

Since there was no judgement regarding the house that we made an offer on, there was no closing and we ended the deal and received our earnest money back. We heard later that when the judgement did come through, it favored the son of the deceased boyfriend. We don't know any particulars except that he had been paying the mortgage payments!?
I think we “dodged a bullet”! No home purchase in Port Angeles!

Takeaways from our trip:
1) There are plenty of beaches to take the dog to shore with the exception of Allison Harbour across from Port Hardy.
2) We spent too much money on marinas...should have anchored out more!
3) We spent too much money on restaurants...should have eaten on board more!
4) We met some very nice people...hope we stay in touch!
5) We might want to go up the west side of Vancouver Island and further north to Alaska...hopefully Prince William Sound, Kenai Fjords, and beyond.
6) Fuel cost 2x as much in Canada...may not have needed to refuel as much.

We have been living on the boat in the harbor at Port Angeles. Every week or so, we drive to Puyallup to get some things done, help Mom, or visit our son. We are looking forward to enjoying the area around Port Angeles, and spending time with our new friends.
So far we have gone up to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. We sailed over to Anacortes where we picked up some friends from Montana, sailed to Friday Harbor, stayed overnight, and sailed back to Anacortes. Stay tuned...

23 miles across the Straits of Juan de Fuca. We are looking forward to getting back and staying in one place for a while. We are supposed to close on the “house deal” on the 28th, but there has yet to be a judgement regarding who actually owns the property. We'll see what's going on when we get there. We cleared Customs and headed to our assigned slip for the winter...an uneventful ending to an eventful trip.

Last stop in BC

We are now on our way to the last stop before we head back to Port Angeles, Cadboro Bay near Victoria. Nice, sunny day...27 miles. We anchored there surrounded by very expensive homes and a public park. Nice evening...tomorrow we sail back to Port Angeles and the USA.

A Day with Al

Spent the day with Al. He drove us to his new (to him) house. He showed us how he was going to make improvements to his property. He showed us his muscle cars (mustangs). We ate at a restaurant near the marina that night. Great visit.

Next we head over to Mill Bay to see our good friend, Al. This was a 19 mile trip with cloudy skies. Pretty nice, new marina. The restaurant up on the dock requires reservations. They were full...saved money again! We will see Al in the morning.

Heading back across the pond to Ganges

Nice day, calm, sunny...going 50 miles to Ganges on Saltspring Island. We heard how much fun it is in Ganges. I can see how that could be. There were some interesting shops, and they seem to have a lot of festivals. I think because the tourist season is over and we are getting to the point of sensory overload, we didn't do much here except walk around with the dog.
