Leaving 'A' Dock Behind

01 June 2009 | Greenwich Cove
Chris / Warm changing to windy and cold
We charged the water system in the boat and filled, flushed and re-filled the water tanks.

All things were put in good order and we pulled away from A Dock into the Taunton River. It is a beautiful ride down the river and since we were at mid-tide we had no depth issues to contend with although you do have to follow the channel but it is clearly marked.

After passing through the construction area for the 'new' Brightman St Bridge, we contacted the Bridgetender on Ch 13 and asked for a bridge opening to clear through. This was handled most efficiently and we thanked the Bridgetender and said we would see him again in October. He wished a wonderful summer and we continued south into Mount Hope Bay which seems to be a slog no matter when you go through it...at least in my experience.

We had an incoming tide and the 10-15 mph predicted was at least 20 to 25 mph. This made for a sloppy choppy trip. Once we cleared the Mount Hope Bridge we snuck behind Hog Island into Bristol to try to get a break from the mess we would have been in going the other way.

Once we were able to turn more downwind and towards Warwick Light things settled down quite a bit and the ride became enjoyable again.

We picked up our mooring with our trusty brideled Grab n Go at approximately 6:15. Bob lowered the dinghy and we attached two separate lines to the mooring, one to each bow, as safety lines.

At that point it was time to hit the road so we locked up and took the dinghy to a safe spot where we could lock it up until tomorrow.

All that is left is to collect Bob's car from Shaw's.

We are happy to report that all systems worked well and the engines ran perfectly as usual.

Let the games begin!
